Chris Evans: Virgin Radio host dismissed by James Martin over cooking advice ‘Shut up’
Chris Evans asks James Martin if he’s ‘adding powder’
Chris Evans, 54, told James Martin, 48, on his Saturday Morning programme today that he likes to “put a little bit of powder” in with his potatoes. The Virgin Radio host, who is a vegan, looked on as the celebrity chef cooked a beef Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and admitted that it looked delicious.
We put a little bit of powder in with them
Chris watched as James took the roasted potatoes out of the oven and placed them on a plate.
The former Top Gear presenter reflected on his own experience roasting potatoes, he said: “We put a little bit of powder, uh flower in with them, to crisp them up a little bit…”
James shot him an evil glare as he appeared to disapprove of this method.
Chris looking sheepish responded: “No? Ok…”

James, ignoring Chris, continued cooking his vegetables, as he instructed: “Bring them to the boil.
Chris answered: “Ok, I’ll shut up. Sorry.”
However, James did admit that you “can” add some powder to potatoes although it was evidently not his preferred method.
The chef continued persuading Chris to change his mind about his veganism as he added Yorkshire puddings to the plate.
He said: “If there’s one thing over Christmas that will change your mind, Chris, it’s going to be this.”
Chris replied: “I’m already there aren’t I,” as he salivated over the meat-based dish.
Looking at the giant Yorkshire pudding that James had cooked, Chris admitted: “This veganism thing was good for lockdown…”
It comes as Chris previously admitted on his Virgin Radio show that appearing on the show might be his “biggest mistake ever”.

He and the popular TV chef have been friends for years and they have both appeared on each other’s shows countless times.
But Chris admitted this occasion would be very different for the pair.
For one, coronavirus has scuppered all plans for a party, which he revealed James’ team holds every year when it gets nearer Christmas.
Secondly, Chris has adopted a plant-based diet, something he worried foodie James would quiz him about.
“The family usually come with me but this year they can’t because it’s COVID compliant,” he explained,
“And this is my first-year plant-based.”
He shared that he’s not only meat-free but also dairy-free too.
“James of course is Mr meat and Mr butter and I’m not only plant-based, I’m completely dairy-free too. So I think the tables could turn! This could be the biggest mistake ever!”
James Martin Saturday Kitchen continues next Saturday on ITV at 12pm.
