Comedian Rhod Gilbert rushed to A&E amid stage four cancer diagnosis

Comedian Rhod Gilbert has been rushed to A&E amid his stage four cancer diagnosis.

His wife Sian took to Twitter to share that Rhod was in hospital, although she didn't give the reason he was there.

Sian wrote: “A&E absolutely rammed with people with hacking coughs, we were only ones there wearing masks. I just don’t get it.”

She added: “They’ve even got a sign that says, ‘Everyone beyond this point must wear masks’. So they only work in there then?”

Never Mind the Buzzcocks star Rhod, 54, announced in July that he had been diagnosed with cancer, and would be receiving treatment at Velindre Cancer Centre, for which he is a patron and has been a fundraiser for for ten years.

On Facebook, Rhod said: "As a proud patron of Velindre Cancer Centre, I’ve trekked the world, hosted chaotic quizzes and star-studded comedy nights. I’ve met and made friends with so many inspirational staff, patients and their families.

"It has been a huge part of my life for the last ten years. So while I never imagined that I would be a patient here, I know better than anyone that I am in the best possible hands."

He continued: "The NHS care I’m receiving is incredible. I wouldn't wish this on anyone…but who knows, maybe I'll come out the other end with a new stand-up show and a 40 minute rant about orange squash.

"Thank you everyone for your support over the last few weeks and months (and years). I’ll be disappearing for a while and won’t be commenting further, at least not for now, whilst I focus on my recovery."

Rob has been receiving chemotherapy, radiation treatment and surgery at the hospital, following his diagnosis, and he recently revealed that he was feeling “happy, positive and optimistic.”

He said: “I'm feeling good and feel like I'm recovering day-by-day.

“Some days I'm well enough to do a bit of writing and I've got a feeling when I've got through all this there'll be a show in it.”

The comedy personality was diagnosed with cancer after finding lumps on his body and feeling ill as he took part in a fundraising trek.

Welshman Rhod is often seen on TV, having made appearances on 8 Out of 10 Cats, Mock the Week, Have I Got News for You and of course, Never Mind the Buzzcocks.

He also was the host of The Apprentice: You're Fired, until very recently, and he's now the face of DIY: SOS, having taken over from Nick Knowles.
