Elton John offers fatherly advice to Ant McPartlin as telly star goes sober

Sir Elton John is helping telly host Ant McPartlin overcome his addiction to alcohol and prescription drugs.

Elton invited Ant and Dec to join him when Newcastle played Watford in September.

A source close to the TV hosts told the Mirror: “Elton invited Ant and Dec to the game – they were given his VIP seats.

“He’s been very supportive of Ant and given advice on dealing with addiction.

“Obviously Elton has been sober for many years now and is a lot older than Ant so can offer fatherly advice and knows how tough it can be to kick the habit.”

It is understood that Ant is grateful for Elton’s help in establishing his new, sober life with teetotal wife Anne-Marie Corbett, who he married in August and whom he credits with helping him battle his addictions.

This is not the first time that Elton has supported a celebrity friend in their journey to sobriety.

He previously offered to help Robbie Williams, even trying to get him into rehab, the Take That star revealed on the Jonathan Ross show in 2019.

When Robbie woke up, having crashed at the Rocket Man singer's house, he found doctors ready to take him away for treatment.

He said: “Elton is the most loving, generous man you could imagine and has helped so many people.”

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly are set to present the upcoming series of I'm A Celebrity, which starts on November 21.

This year's star-studded line-up is rumoured to include the likes of Adam Woodyatt, Richard Madeley and Frankie Bridge, with the official line-up yet to be confirmed by ITV.

For the first time, this series will be filmed on British soil as Covid restrictions make it difficult to film the show in Australia.
