Emma McVey has said she is sometimes left "breathless" after completing household task after doctors discovered three holes in her heart.

The star, who recently invited OK! to be part of her wedding with Gaz Beadle, is set for surgery in a few weeks and admits her condition had drastically changed her.

"I feel like I’m 80. I have to sit down after changing the bed sheets," she told OK!. "I can barely breathe because my lungs have to work overtime to deal with double the amount of blood going to them.

"The operation will close the holes and unblock the valves so everything can start mending."

But the star admits her recent nuptials to former Geordie Shore star Gaz Beadle provided the perfect distraction.

"The wedding was a huge distraction for me," she said. "It really helped me. Now the surgery is the next thing coming up and it’s back on my mind in a big way. It’s not ideal, but it’s totally out of my hands now.

"I’ve been going back and forth to the doctors for years, and it was never discovered. It was only a few weeks ago, when they checked my heart, that they found the holes and told me I needed open heart surgery."

She added: "Of course it’s scary. I should have an appointment for the operation in a couple of weeks and the recovery time will be three months minimum."

But Emma knows she has the biggest support in new husband Gaz, who is also the father to their children Chester, three, and Primrose, 18 months.

Speaking after their wedding, he told OK!: "Emma and the kids are the best thing that ever happened to me.

"And becoming a father has taught me so much," Gaz continued. "I prefer the life I have now – you can get lost in the world of celebrity, and I like having a home, waking up and being with my family.

"I’ve grown massively as a person over the last five years and now I enjoy being a husband and father."
