Gogglebox producers have paid a touching tribute to one of the shows late co-stars and fan favourites Pete McGarry after his sudden death at the age of 71 was announced on Tuesday 29 July.

At the end of the episode on Friday 2 July, the show shared a sweet snap of Pete, who sadly lost his battle with bowel cancer, alongside his supportive wife Linda, beside the message: “In loving memory: Pete McGarry 1950-2021.”

In the picture used, Pete can be seen in his happy place with a loving arm wrapped around his wife snuggled up on the sofa where they filmed the hit Channel 4 commentary show.

It was revealed earlier this week that Pete’s cause of death was complications with his bowel cancer after Linda shared the news online.

She revealed he had been diagnosed with the deadly disease earlier this year, but despite a recent operation to remove the tumour, he was still only given six months left to live.

Tragically the TV star died just days after he was given the prognosis surrounded by all of his close family members in this Essex home.

Linda recently opened up about the tragic event with The Sun and shared what a lovely and hard-working man her husband was.

She told the publication: “Pete was a lovely man and I was so lucky to have him for 25 years.

“I said to him, ‘we’ve not only been 25 years, it’s been day and night with each other.’ He was my life.”

This comes after the sad news was announced on behalf of the family by Channel 4 representatives last Monday 28 June.

Many Gogglebox fans shared sweet messages of condolences to the grieving family, including some from their fellow co-stars on the show.

Giles Wood and Mary Killen took to Instagram to share their condolences, as they wrote: “Very sad to hear of the death of #Gogglebox’s Pete. My thoughts go out to Linda, George & his family at this terrible time.”

David and Shirley Griffiths added: “So sad to hear of Pete’s passing, a loved member of #Gogglebox thinking of Linda and all the family in such sad times.”

The Channel 4 tribute also referenced Pete and Linda’s incredible foster work after the couple cared for more than one hundred children since they embarked on their journey as foster parents in 2000.

Another user added: "Rest in peace, Pete, love and prayers to all your family. Fostering all those children making a positive difference to their lives the world just lost a big loving heart and a wonderful person.”
