Mel B shares touching moment she visited fathers grave to tell him about MBE

Mel B has shared a black and white photo of herself visiting her late father's grave to tell him about being awarded with an MBE.

The 46 year old was one of the many celebrities who were made Members of the Order of the British Empire in the Queen's New Year Honours list.

Mel's award was given in recognition of her work with domestic violence charity Women's Aid, for which she is a patron.

Melanie has previously bravely come forward to speak about her own experiences with domestic violence. Back in 2019, the star delivered a report on domestic abuse at Downing Street, and earlier this year, she played the role of a woman beaten badly for a devastating video for Women's Aid.

The Spice Girl star, whose nickname is Scary Spice and real name is Melanie Brown, took to her Instagram feed to post the snap of herself speaking to her dad Martin, who died in 2017 after a battle with myeloma cancer, for her 1.5million followers to see.

The touching picture shows the singer bending over to look at the inscription on her father's grave as she dons a camo-themed long jacket with a pair of boots.

In the caption, she told her legion of fans: "This was the moment I told my dad about my MBE.

"On his death bed I promised him I would leave my abusive marriage. He gave me that strength. He would be so proud,I’m overwhelmed honoured and grateful and as patron of @womens_aid I will NEVER stop this fight to #stopabuse #itsnotyourfault #silencenomore #womensupportwomen #speakup #youarenotalone #reclaimthesestreets #yourlifematters #togetherwearestronger".

Celebrity friends were quick to comment as Alexandra Burke shared: "Proud of you xxx," while her Spice Girl pal Emma Bunton said: "Love you," with a red heart emoji.

Meanwhile, her followers couldn't help but sing her praises as one person gushed: "Huge congratulations Mel,you so deserve this," with a clapping hands emoji.
