Shirley Ballas says shes disappointed Tom Fletcher voted off BBCs Strictly
Strictly Come Dancing's Shirley Ballas has said she's "disappointed" that Tom Fletcher was the latest celebrity to be voted off the competition.
Tom and his dance partner Amy Dowden became the eighth duo to leave the competition on Sunday, a move that the Strictly judge thinks was a mistake.
Appearing on Loose Women today (November 22), judge Shirley admitted that she was disappointed to see Tom and Amy go, after noting on the results show she would have saved the couple if the decision had come down to her.
“I mean, I didn’t think he was a little bit in front,” Shirley told the Loose Women panel. “I thought he was quite a ways in front.
“But that’s what we have a panel for. But I thought he was great.”
Tom and Amy were the latest couple to leave the show after panellists Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and guest judge Cynthia Erivo all voted to save Rhys and Nancy.
Actress and singer Cynthia was filling in for Craig Revel Horwood, who took a week off the show following a positive Covid test.
Although the other three judges were more impressed by Rhys’ performance, Shirley felt the McFly star had another week left in him.
Sharing her thoughts to Tom and Amy's dance to On My Own from Les Misérables for this year’s Musical Week, Shirley recalled: “I thought it was synchronised, it was beautiful.
“It was emotional. I thought he brought it at the end.”
The couple scored a 32 with their couple’s choice dance on Saturday night, which Tom dedicated to his musical theatre star sister, Carrie Hope Fletcher.
Their scores found the duo near the bottom of the leader board, as Tilly Ramsay and Nikita Kuzmin received a perfect score of 40 points for their couple’s choice to Revolting Children from Matilda the Musical.
When asked about his time on the show, the 36 year old musician said: “Honestly I’ve had the best time, I’ve loved every second of it.
“I’ve made the best friend in Amy, you’ve been amazing thank you so much for teaching me how to dance, I know it was a struggle at times.
He added: “Thank you so much, it’s been the best experience and I don’t regret a single minute of it, so thank you everyone so much. I’m gutted to leave.”
Tom added that he hopes his three sons “are proud” of him and that they have “loved learning to dance” with Amy as she’s been teaching them too.
Professional dancer Amy was asked if she wanted to say anything to her partner, to which she replied: “I really wasn’t ready for this. I’ve loved every single second from the bottom of my heart. Who gets to say they got to go on tour with McFly?!”
Tom and Amy will join Rylan Clark-Neal and Janette Manrara on Monday on Strictly’s sister show, It Takes Two.
