I transformed my boring IKEA coffee table using £1.50 bins from Asda and it now looks MEGA expensive

A KEEN DIY fan has revealed how she transformed her plain and boring coffee table into a piece of furniture that wouldn’t look out of place in an interiors magazine. 

Meg Coates, who has a TikTok account under the name @megcoatez, astounded her followers when she showed off the before and after – and explained she achieved the new look thanks to a £1.50 purchase from supermarket Asda. 

Posting a detailed video to her social media page, Meg showed her followers her previously plain white basic table, with thin gold legs. 

It then cut to her buying two plain white bins in an Asda trolley, before she opened up on her she went about the ambitious upcycling job. 

Meg, who also runs a successful DIY YouTube channel, explained: “I can’t believe I have just updated my coffee table with £1.50 bins from Asda.

“The coffee table top was from IKEA for £6 and I got the legs on eBay, and I just wanted to give it another update.”

Meg continued to show the step-by-step transformation, as well as her inspiration for the look.

She said: “So I decided to put a marble dc fix on it. And I wanted the Japan style legs that are all over Instagram at the moment.

The clip then cuts to Meg making sure the two bins she decided to use as legs were symmetrical, before screwing them tightly into place at the bottom of the table top.

However, she was far from done, explaining she wanted to give the table “a bit more pizazz.”

After one of Meg’s friends suggested she spray painted the legs so that they worked better aesthetically with the newly marbled top. 

She then showcased how the table currently looks – completely with a beautiful bouquet of flowers that elevates it even further.

She said: “This makeover cost me £9.50. I’m very impressed with it.

“Ok, yep, I’ve got bins as table legs but if it looks like this, who cares?”
