This event comes hours after Prince William and Kate Middleton dazzled on the red carpet at the premiere of the new James Bond film, ‘No Time to Die’, which will be released in cinemas on September 30. However, today the Duchess of Cambridge looked completely different in a low-key sports outfit at the City of Derry Rugby Club wearing a Lululemon black ‘Define Jacket Luon’ and trousers from the same brand. The Duchess was also sporting some ‘New Balance x Sweaty Betty Vazee’ trainers and a pair of Liv Thurlwell gold bobble earrings.
This visit to Derry Rugby Club is part of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s surprise visit to Northern Ireland today despite being up late at a film premiere in London the night before.
The Northern Ireland Office tweeted the following: “Taking part in some of the activities, The Duke and Duchess had the opportunity to meet with young people, allowing them to experience the positive power in sport to promote community cohesion.”
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge posted on their official Twitter account, saying: “At City Of Derry RFC to meet players, coaches and volunteers involved in the Sport Uniting Communities initiative.
“The project promotes meaningful, purposeful and sustained contact between individuals from different backgrounds – particularly across the religious divide.”
The royal couple’s initiative is aimed at promoting peace and reconciliation.
Judi James, a body language specialist, spoke to Express.co.uk about Kate Middleton’s body language at the Rugby Club in Derry, and the contrast from her appearance the night before.
Judi said: “The day after the night before is normally a time for rest and regeneration, but after epitomizing red carpet glamour at the Bond premiere, Kate looked in the best of spirits and keen to show her playful and down-to-earth side at the Derry rugby club on a trip to Northern Ireland.
“Kate could have sat it out a bit and encouraged William to get stuck in on the pitch but instead she seems to be leading the sporting moves here in an animated and thoroughly high-energy display.
“Meanwhile, her husband offers encouragement with a display of support and advice from the sidelines.
“Kate is firmly centre stage here and her gestures with William suggest she’s enjoying acting like a team captain.
“It’s as though Kate sees this more natural-looking and very fun event as every bit as important and maybe even more enjoyable than the more formal and regal glamour we saw the night before.
“Kate might be a future Queen of England but the way she throws herself into visits like this suggests she will retain her more down-to-earth and competitive side no matter what her status as a royal.”
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived in Londonderry this morning.
They visited Ulster University this morning, engaged with the Student Union there and mingled with royal fans among the students.
For this visit, Kate wore an Emilia Wickstead magenta trouser suit with a navy belt, some Emmy ‘Josie’ navy pumps, a Jaeger navy quilted clutch, and the same Liv Thurlwell gold bobble hoops she wore later on to visit Derry Rugby Club.
Kate also released a photograph on social media holding a tarantula, which sweetly had the same name as her daughter, Charlotte.
Royal fans were amazed that the Duchess of Cambridge could go from gold sequins last night to a plum trouser suit, before slimming down the glamour on the rugby pitch in Derry.
Twitter account @loveforCambridg tweeted: “Another beautiful outfit for our Duchess!
“How great to see her and our Duke again.”
Another fan account, @RoyallyBelle_ added: “Yay! You guys are TREATING us!”
