Inside Zara and Mike Tindalls unusual eating habits including separate meals and daily takeaways

While most couples look forward to tucking into dinners together, Mike Tindall has revealed that he and wife Zara no longer eat meals together.

Former rugby ace Mike, 43, opened up about how he and Zara, 40, opt to have separate meals, after she gave up red meat following the births of their three children – Mia, eight, Lena, three, and one year old Lucas.

Now Zara, who is the Queen's granddaughter, eats her meals without her husband, who simply orders a food delivery each day in order to avoid cooking.

Speaking to the Daily Mail's Richard Eden, Mike said: "My wife Zara's appetites have changed since having children. She's not into eating red meat anymore, so now I look after my own meals."

The dad-of-three went on to explain that he has his food delivered now, adding: "I do this through a company that delivers most of my food because then it's easy to keep track of my calorie intake.

"I'm not a massive fan of cooking. Zara can look in the fridge and plan what to eat but that's not my skill-set."

Mike continued, adding that he enjoys four meals a day and has a strict routine – a habit which dates back to his rugby days, when all of his food was provided for him.

The 43 year old said: "When it comes to food, I'm like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day — I'm all about routine.

"Back in my rugby days, most of my meals were provided. You'd get into the club at 7am and have breakfast. You'd have a midmorning snack, then lunch, then a post-training afternoon snack — so the only meal you'd have to worry about was dinner. That routine has stuck with me."

He continued: 'I'm a four-meals-a-day person — so I have lunch bang on 12 noon, something at 3pm, then eat again in the evening. That's where the food delivery company comes in handy."

Mike's rare comments about his and Zara's home life come after he recently enjoyed a day out with his childhood pal, former Coronation Street star, Katherine Kelly.

The duo headed out in London's Soho on Thursday 21 April, and were snapped chatting as they strolled in the sunshine.

Mike and Katherine struck up a friendship at school, and have remained close throughout their adult years with the actress attending Mike and Zara's wedding back in 2011.

The two are so close that Mike is godfather to Katherine’s eldest daughter Orla and Katherine is godmother to their daughter Lena.

In an interview with YOU Magazine, Katherine previously opened up about her friendship with the former rugby ace, saying: "Mike lived in my village and we used to ride our BMXs around. Then we both moved down South.

“He was amazing at rugby and I was good at drama and we were both really dedicated, so there would be nights where we would be out at a club 'til two in the morning with everybody, but we’d be on soft drinks because he’d got a match and I’d got rehearsals the next morning.”
