Meghan Markle explains why Harry ‘crashed the party’ with surprise appearance

Meghan Markle had a surprise companion as she hosted a discussion on female empowerment this morning – her loving husband Prince Harry .

But the Duke didn't just rock up because he fancied getting out of the house or because it was held just a couple of minutes away from their house at Windsor Castle – and Meghan explained he was there for a vital reason.

She jokingly thanked her guests for letting him "crash the party", saying it's vital for men to be involved in conversations about gender equality.

In her opening remarks, she said: "Gender equality, which has been something I've championed for quite a long time, I think that that conversation can't happen without men being part of it.

"This is something that is also key to how my husband feels. He's been working in this space since 2013, which I think a lot of people don't notice as much, but I think that's what's really important.

"You can't have a conversation about women empowerment with just women.

"So for this reason it made complete sense to let him (Harry) join today so thank you for letting him crash the party."

Harry drove Meghan to the event in an electric Audi E-Tron – just a few months after the couple were criticised for their extravagant travelling habits.

The couple met with youth ambassadors from One Young World, who will share their personal experiences of the challenges they have faced with inequality.

They will also discuss international inclusion projects, led by the organisation's representatives, in countries including South Africa, Nigeria, Iraq, Malawi and Bangladesh.

Meghan, who looked stunning in a Hugo Boss leather pencil skirt with a matching shirt, explained her intention for the event was to create a task force looking into how ideas can be replicated in other areas.

She said: "What you're all capable independently is incredible but then when we work collectively."
