Molly-Mae Hague insists ‘I’m not an influencer anymore’ as she’s named PrettyLittleThing creative director

When it comes to Molly-Mae Hague, there is no denying that she is a hard worker and determined to do her best all the time.

Following on from the huge success of her previous collections with fashion giant PrettyLittleThing, the CEO of the company Umar Kamani has gone one step further and made the 22-year-old Creative Director of the brand – we know, major right? But so deserving.

Scrolling through Molly-Mae’s Instagram you can see very clearly that this is one woman who knows style, so it seems like a very obvious option for her to take on this incredible role.

Oh but that’s not it, alongside the exciting announcement, Molly-Mae has also launched a brand new collection and we think this could be her best one yet.

Made up of various tailored items and relaxed, everyday pieces, there is something for everyone.

OK!’s Fashion Writer, Scott, sat down with the woman of the hour to talk about her new role and what we can expect from the collection.

How did the job offer come about?

“It’s been in the works now for quite a few months, it's been a lot of discussions back and forth and we were actually talking about it earlier, when Umar put it forward, I think I just couldn’t believe it," Molly-Mae told us.

"I couldn’t believe that he was going to trust me with that role. I was like “oh my god, Umar actually believes in me that much to put me as creative director.” I don’t think it’s still sunk in yet.

"I think that the 15-year-old me is screaming to get to work with them and being asked to be creative director is just obviously no one could dream of doing that, it’s just crazy.”

What does the new role entail?

“It’s going to be like a 24/7 thing. Obviously I’ll be working alongside the creative team already at PLT. It’s basically making my vision come to life.

"So far with my relationship with PLT, it’s been me working towards PLT’s vision and me going along with that but I think with the new chapter will be me having my vision within the brand and putting that forward, but yeah, it’s going to be a completely new chapter – I don’t think anyone is expecting it either. I’ve had a lot of people guessing on Instagram what it is and no one has guessed right yet.”

How did Tommy react to your new role?

"He was really, really happy and proud. He’s got a lot going on himself but he’s just super proud of me and this is obviously the biggest move in my career I would say. It is just going to be so different, obviously having a role within PLT is so different to what I’ve already done – I’m not just an influencer anymore."

What would you say your vision for the brand is? And where do you see the brand going?

“I think PLT has already done such an incredible job with staying current and keeping on top of trends -I think it is the young people’s brand. So many girls shop at PLT, the girl that can’t necessarily afford that £100 dress from other brands, they’ll go on to PLT and they can grab a quick outfit, it’s there the next day.

"PLT is just the most incredible brand, so I think it’s definitely sticking with what we’ve already got going on but it’s just heightening things, making them bigger and better. Like, what can we do next? What influencers can we get next? What upcoming artists can we work with next?

"I’m always going to eat, sleep, breathe PLT now, whatever comes into my mind, obviously I’ll put it forward to the brand and just have a really large creative input.”

Moving on from one exciting announcement to the next, Molly also has her brand new collection launching alongside her new role.

From punchy oranges and rich greens to natural neutrals, there’s a lot of different shapes and silhouettes for everyone to enjoy.

What is even better is that the collection goes up to a UK size 30 so there’s something for absolutely everyone.

Molly revealed that her favourite item of the collection is “a white jumpsuit that is beautiful -it’s the most premium piece in the collection.”

What can we expect from the collection?

“I’d definitely say it’s my biggest and best yet, 100%. I’ve literally watched this collection grow from nothing to something.

"Like I was with Chris the designer from the very start, creating moodboards, colour palettes, it’s literally my best yet – I’m obsessed with it.

"Every single piece has been designed from scratch and there’s something for everyone”

Do you find you put a lot of your own style into designing and think what to put into the collection?

“I think being an influencer for six years now, it's my job to kind of understand what young girls want and what young girls need.

"So I think everything I do, even with my own collections, I’m thinking of what the consumer wants and I think that’s why it’s really smart to have an influencer as creative director because it’s obviously my job to literally understand what girls my age want, so everything I do I’m thinking about my audience.”

Is there anything else exciting coming up for you?

“Well this is just the start really isn’t it? Now I’m announcing the role everyone is going to have to wait and see what we bring out at PLT.

"But it’s going to be absolutely huge this year and the following year to come. I’ve already got so many ideas popping into my head 24/7 that I’m relaying to the team and I just can’t wait for everything to become a reality.”

What advice would you give to your younger self?

"I definitely struggled with trying to grow up too quickly when I was younger, I was always trying to rush things and always trying to do the next big thing for me.

"Which is a good mentality to have because it always pushes you to go further but I think when you’re younger and you’re trying to push yourself with the way you look or the way to act and the way you dress, it’s sometimes ok to just park that and enjoy where you are and let yourself grow up naturally.

"So I’d definitely say just slow down and enjoy the moment.”
