NIGHTLY WORRY DIARY

Every night I think about what is in my head and write down my worries as a series of bullet points, then think about when I can deal with them. If I have no control over a problem, I’ll put a red cross through that entry. It helps to offload worries before I sleep. It’s less of a journal, more of a dumping ground. I started doing this 20 years ago during a stressful divorce.

MENOPAUSE SMOOTHIES

I had a radical hysterectomy six years ago and was plunged into the menopause overnight. I didn’t want HRT. Instead, I started eating plants rich in phytoestrogens, such as wild yams, to boost my oestrogen levels. Plus, I make a magic menopause Nutribullet smoothie, containing chia seeds, spinach and yellow maca. It improves my energy levels and mood. The menopause should be celebrated as a new chapter.

TECH-free Meditation

To me a meditation app is an oxymoron because our phones use blue light, which affects our serotonin (the happy hormone). Mindfulness for me is shutting down and being in the moment. I do visualisations of past happy memories or beautiful landscapes. And I love to walk barefoot on the grass. Sea swimming also helps to clear my mind.

SPINAL RESET

Once a fortnight, I have therapy on my spine with The Spinal Health Clinic. They work on the fascia that runs up the spine — the connective tissue — in order to reset the body. A healthy spine has knock-on effects on the whole body.

NO MOISTURISERS

After my divorce in my 30s, I set up my own skincare line. I haven’t used a moisturiser for 15 years as I find they can be clogging. Instead, I use ingredients that are hydrators, such as hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, oat milk or shea butter.
