DU Pioneers hockey ties Western Michigan, earns extra point in shootout – The Denver Post
The Denver Pioneers hockey team and Western Michigan skated to a 3-3 tie, but DU picked up the extra point in the standings thanks to McKade Webster’s shootout goal Saturday at Baxter Arena in Omaha, Neb.
Goaltender Corbin Kaczperski made three saves in the shootout as the Pioneers (3-5-1-1) stayed in fifth place in the NCHC standings with 12 points. Brett Edwards, Cole Guttman and Webster each scored a goal in regulation.
DU fell behind 2-0 early in the second period before Edwards scored at the 5:50 mark to cut the deficit to one. The Pioneers added another one at 9:20 when Webster scored a wraparound power play goal to tie it at 2-apiece.
The Broncos scored their own power-play goal later in the period to retake the lead. DU tied the game in the third period when Guttman scored on the Pioneers’ one-man advantage.
DU will play St. Cloud State at 3:05 p.m. Sunday in its final game in the “Pod.” After an 11-day break, the Pioneers will play an away-home series against Colorado College on Jan. 1-2.
