A newbie to hosting the show, Ben made his debut on Boxing Day as he presented solo. On Tuesday, BBC Breakfast viewers tuned in to see him at work once again, this time alongside seasoned host Luxmy Gopal. The two made a promising team, and it seems Ben was glad to be joined by someone on the iconic BBC Sofa as he penned an appreciative tweet in Luxmy’s honour.

Ben, 38, has appeared on BBC news programmes before but took on the high-pressure task of presenting BBC Breakfast to the nation on Monday as they relaxed into Boxing Day.

To add extra pressure, he fronted the show, which is usually presented by a pair of broadcasters, alone.

Thankfully he wasn’t working by himself on Tuesday, as Luxmy was by his side for the Bank Holiday programme.

Normally, shows at the start of the week are led by Sally Nugent and Jon Kay, but it seems the pair are enjoying a Christmas break this week.

Ben took the opportunity to snap a sweet selfie with Luxmy, who often steps in to present the high-audience news show.

Posting the photo on Twitter, Ben told his 15,000 followers: “Delighted to have company on the red sofa @BBCBreakfast this morning – and delighted that it’s @luxmy_g [smiling emoji] #BBCBreakfast.”

The grinning pair sat proudly on the red sofa while a Christmas tree stood in the background.

The presenters seemed well-coordinated as Luxmy sported a blue dress while Ben’s tie matched.

Luxmy, 29, later revealed in the comments below this had been a “happy coincidence”.

Ben’s first couple of shows seems to have been well-received by viewers, who quickly responded with a flood of comments applauding him and his colleague for the job.

Twitter user @robertrea replied to Ben’s post to comment: “Fantastic team.”

@janemcintyre12 agreed, writing: “Top team!” beneath the snap.

“You both look lovely on the Red sofa,” @JulieMalin15 shared.

Acknowledging Ben’s debut, @Benjami73846334 added: “Good Morning Ben Boulos & Luxmy Gopal. Great first breakfast yesterday Ben.”

@MH030772 quipped: “Watch out Sally and Jon, there’s a pairing waiting in the wings. Looked good didn’t they?”

@LukeThorne94 remarked: “Excellent edition of #Breakfast this morning.”

“Ben you’re doing an excellent job!!” @bb_niabevan praised. (sic)

It’s unclear whether the duo will be back on the red sofa again anytime soon, but it seems clear they have already been welcomed by BBC fans.

Sally and Jon typically present from Mondays to Wednesdays, so tomorrow might see the pair making a return following the extended Bank Holiday.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays from 6am on BBC One.
