BBC vows to bin bias and warns stars could be sacked for being unfair

THE BBC yesterday vowed to bin bias in all areas from news to comedy — and warned stars could be sacked for being unfair.

The pledge came after Sir Nicholas Serota published his review into governance and culture at the broadcaster.

The Beeb faced criticism this year over the “deceitful” way Martin Bashir obtained his 1995 interview with Princess Diana.

Yesterday, Arts Council England chairman Sir Nicholas recommended improving editorial standards and said senior staff had not always been held to account.

His report said the BBC must “do more to embed editorial values into its fabric” and bosses should be “challenged to represent audiences from all parts of the UK”.

The BBC has responded with a ten-point plan including disciplinary action for failure to comply with editorial values.

Stars such as Gary Lineker have previously been rapped over tweets.

BBC director-general Tim Davie said: “We must meet the highest standards and hold ourselves accountable in everything.”
