Dancing On Ice's Matt Evers lets slip he wants Sonny Jay to win – NOT partner Faye Brookes

DANCING On Ice pro Matt Evers made a surprising confession ahead of this weekend's grand final – he wants Sonny Jay to win.

The American, 44, is partnered with former Coronation Street star Faye Brookes, after her original show pro Hamish Gaman was forced to leave the series through injury.

Matt's original celebrity partner, Denise Van Outen, was also forced to pull out of the programme after battling a painful shoulder injury and dislocation.

Today, on Good Morning Britain, Matt was quizzed on who he thought would lift the ice crown.

He said: "I called it from day one, Sonny is the ultimate underdog. He's not an actor or skater, but he's combined those two into the perfection that he has over the past few weeks.

"If anybody is going to win, I'd love Sonny to win…" before Faye, who played Corrie's Kate O'Connor, nervously giggled.

Matt then swiftly followed up: "Obviously I want Faye to win now too… and I want Colin [Jackson]!"

All Faye, who was earlier accused of "breaking" Hamish, could utter in response was: "Never mind!"

Later, when the pair were again interviewed on This Morning, Matt paid a sweet tribute to his partner.

He said: "She's taken it like a champ, she has sailed through the hurdles she has come across.

"She has made me a better professional – I will say that."

Faye then admitted she was feeling "bittersweet" about the series finale.

She confessed: "We don't want it to end – but we are so tired!"

Faye will be joined by Olympian Colin Jackson, who found himself in the skate off against Lady Leshurr in the show's semi final.

DJ Sonny, who had viewers in tears when he paid tribute to his late friend, Joe Lyons, in the semis will take up the third place in the last showdown.

Meanwhile, this year's Dancing On Ice has been a shocker, with celebrities dropping left, right and centre due to injuries and positive coronavirus tests.

You can catch the Dancing On Ice final this Sunday (March 14, 2021), at 6pm on ITV.

All episodes will appear on the ITV Hub after they have aired.
