EastEnders spoilers: Key character to be KILLED OFF amid Walford cast 'cull'; plus Coronation Street & Emmerdale news

EASTENDERS has announced that Lola Pearce will be axed from the soap amid rumours of a 'cast cull' on the BBC drama series.

Actress Danielle Harold, 29, will see her character killed off – with it thought a big storyline is in the works as to how the single-mum leaves Walford.

The Sun exclusively revealed that Danielle met with soap bosses where she expected to discuss an extension of her contract but was instead told her days on the show were numbered.

However, it's thought she was told she won't be the only one leaving Albert Square.

An EastEnders insider said: “Dan was in pieces. The cull came out of the blue. She was not expecting the chop because her character has been a firm favourite with viewers. She’ll be written out with no option to return.”

The insider added: “Danielle was teary but was told a number of the cast were being shown the door. No-one else has been given their marching orders yet however. The rest of the cast are rallying around her."

Gang robbery this week on Emmerdale

The show has remained tight-lipped about which villager will be the victim of the attack.

It's thought the storyline is less about the attack itself and more about the psychological impact it will have on the character.

"Three years without work – I was just holding on by a thread"

EastEnders star talked openly about past career difficulty.

Emma Barton, better known as Honey Mitchell in EastEnders experienced a time of unemployment that led her to consider giving acting up.

She gave up Honey in 2008 to star in the West End production of Chicago, but when that ended found herself with nothing.

The desperation for an income led to Barton working at the clothes store she worked at when she was at drama school: "I did find it really tough.

"There are times when you just used to shut your bedroom door and go: 'Please, please, somebody help me because I don't know what's happening with my life.

"I felt alone. But I knew I just had to just keep going."

After receiving a call to return to the soap in 2014, Barton became a regular in 2015 and has been there ever since, and even got involved in Jubilee celebrations this weekend with co-stars.
