Jai Sharma (played by Chris Bisson) will find himself in a precarious position when the consequences of the Survival Week at The Hop return to haunt him. The Emmerdale businessman will take drastic action to keep himself afloat but could this result in a village explosion as Jai uses any means necessary to avoid bankruptcy.

In October 2021, several Emmerdale residents took part in an activities adventure organised by Hawksford Outdoor Pursuits (HOP).

The week ended in tragedy as Andrea Tate (Anna Nightingale) was killed in a maze fire after witnessing Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) attempt to drown Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins).

Meena attacked the mum-of-one in the aftermath of one of the bridges collapsing.

Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) and Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin) were on the bridge at the time.

The disaster was caused by Victoria and David attempting to climb across the bridge despite a limit on the number of people allowed on it at one time.

Priya Sharma (Fiona Wade) was also badly injured in the fire and suffered several life-changing burns.

Although Meena caused the fire in an attempt to cover up her crimes, Andrea’s family blamed The Hop.

In upcoming scenes, Jai and Kim Tate (Claire King) receive a huge fine for the bridge collapse.

Jai initially tried to blame Ben Tucker (Simon Lennon) but his plan didn’t work and he’s set to find himself in trouble.

The businessman is keeping his own financial worries secret from his business partner.

Jai secretly makes an application to a loan company but is rejected.

How far will he go to keep himself afloat and insure The Hop remains a viable business?

After being rejected from the loan company, Jai may turn to a far more dangerous option.

If the businessman relies on loan sharks to get him out of trouble, this could spell trouble for the village.

Loan sharks are notoriously untrustworthy and Jai may find himself needing a huge influx of cash to pay them off.

Discussing the crisis, Jai star Chris said: “Becoming the majority shareholder at the HOP puts him in a slightly different position. Kim has managed to hand some shares over to Gabby just in time to sidestep this major crisis.

“It really is on Jai’s toes to resolve this. Ultimately he’s always been fairly ruthless in business and sometimes in love, so he’s due a bit of a run now. He’s been nice for a while.

“He needed redeeming after his escapades with cocaine and Rachel. He went to the edge of whether people could like him anymore.

“We’ve probably bought him back far enough to see he’s a good person and a good dad, but when it comes to business, he’ll do what he has to do to protect his family.”

Emmerdale airs on ITV on weekdays at 7pm.
