Emmerdale Nate Robinson star slams soap for promoting vaccine in Eric plot

Emmerdale actor Jurell Carter has hit out at the soap for promoting the coronavirus vaccine in a new storyline, posting a rant on his social media page.

Jurell, who plays Nate Robinson. vented his fury after it was revealed that Emmerdale will be the first British soap to have a character vaccinated in a storyline.

He wrote on his Instagram Story: "If you wanna take this EXPERIMENTAL vaccine, go ahead but don’t start pushing people to take it or start promoting it.

"I’m even seeing others demonising others for not wanting it."

He added: "Your body, your decision, my body, my decision. The blind leading the blind. And I’m not here for it."

His comments came after it was reported that Eric Pollard, played by Chris Chittell, will tell his family that he's had the Covid jab.

The episode is set to be screened next month on ITV.

Soap scriptwriters have been working hard to keep the storylines up to date with the latest Covid developments – with the shows having a six week delay before it ends up on screens.

The ITV soaps have also paused production to give staff a break during the pandemic, but will be resuming filming soon.

A source told The Sun: "It’s been a really hard year for both soaps. They’ve had to work through the most difficult period in television history.

"Everyone has decided that a break is in order, which is almost unprecedented.

"The storyliners plan a long way in advance, and there's certain things they'd have hoped they could write in for later in the year.

"Both soaps have the best writers in the business, so they're going to use this time to refresh, take stock, and have a think about how they can tell the stories in the best and safest way."

Emmerdale continues tonight at 7pm on ITV.
