Les Dennis, Fern Britton, Linford Christie, Rosemary Shrager and Shane Lynch were the five celebrities who headed to Stirling, Scotland during Friday’s episode to put their angling skills to the test. Channel 5 viewers watched as the five famous went head to head with their own designated champion angler, with the three celebrities who caught the biggest fish rewarded with a luxury cabin each for the evening. And former This Morning star Fern and her partner Kev proved they had what it took to reel in the big guns – although the former ITV host ended up taking a dip alongside the fish in the water as a result.
After being paired up with their champion anglers, each of the Fishing Scotland’s Lochs and Rivers stars went and found their own ideal spot on the banks of the lake.
“Right Fern, this is it, you’re on your own now, girl,” Kev said to the former This Morning host as she got to grips with the rod. “Get that over the spot and we’ll put bait over the top of it.”
Just moments after setting up shop, however, Fern had her concerns: “I’ll do my very, very best. Am I standing in line?”
Kev reassured the TV presenter she was doing fine and the pair got to work to try and bag a catch that would outweigh the others.
After failing to bag anything in their original spot, Fern and Kev devised a plan to move to a different spot on the lake to see if they could catch a better haul.
And it quickly paid off as Fern caught something, prompting her to comment: “Gosh, this is exciting.”
As she reeled the fish in, she added: “I thought I would start screaming and shouting when this happened but I haven’t yet.”
Sadly, Fern lost the first fish but it wasn’t long before she bagged the catch she was after.
“That is heavy. Oh, it’s a beaut!” Fern shouted as she and Kev reeled in their fish.
“Well done, Fern. Well done,” Linford shouted from across the river as a jubilant Fern began to shimmy on the banks of the river.
Sadly for Shane and Les, their nets remained empty, although after watching Fern put her fish back in the lake they may have had a lucky escape.
“Bye, darling. Bye,” Fern said as she put the fish back in the water but as she tried to walk back to land, her footing went.

“Deep joy, deep joy,” Fern said as she began to manoeuvre herself back: “Waheey, woo-hoo.”
But as the soil gave way underneath her shoe, Fern’s lower half became submerged in the lake.
“Ahh! I’m in,” Fern screamed. “Hang on, hang on, hang on. One, two, three…Oh no!”
Kev rushed over to help Fern but she was clearly having difficulty finding her footing to return to dry land.
“Hang on, I’ll go up this way,” she said and eventually with a little help from Kev, she made it out of the water.
“I looked back for three seconds,” Kev joked as Fern tried to dry herself off on the bank.
Luckily for Fern, however, the slip-up wasn’t unrewarded as she bagged the second biggest fish of the trip.
Alongside Linford and Rosemary, the trio bagged a luxury cabin to sleep in while Les and Shane returned from the adventure empty-handed.
Fishing Scotland’s Lochs and Rivers continues Friday on Channel 5.
