Kristian Nairn shot to fame when he took on the role of Hodor in HBO fantasy epic Game of Thrones. The actor starred in the hit show up until season six, when his character was killed off in a shocking scene that left fans in tears. His character of Hodor was a favourite among fans, but when he’s not acting Kristian regularly works as a DJ. However, he’s been unable to play any sets over the past year because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and has opened up about his lockdown experience in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk.

Kristian’s best known for his work as Hodor in Game of Thrones and confessed he gets recognised from the show on a daily basis.

Reflecting on the iconic series, he said: “I still feel lucky to have been involved in such an epic project!

“Hodor was such a unique character and I enjoyed playing him totally.”

However, when Kristian isn’t acting he can be found playing DJ sets, something he’s been doing for over 20 years.

He’s a progressive house/trance DJ and used to be the resident DJ of Kremlin, a gay club in Belfast.

Throughout his music career, Kristian has remixed tracks for the Freemasons, Madison Avenue and Duke.

The star has also performed alongside some other big name DJs including: Steve Aoki, Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike, Fatboy Slim and Danny Howard.

When Game of Thrones became a huge success, Kristian began touring as a DJ with “Rave of Thrones” using musical themes and costumes from the television series.

However, as nightclubs have been closed over the past year due to coronavirus restrictions it’s had a big impact on the star.

He was set to tour the US in March and April of 2020, but his gigs had to be postponed because of the pandemic.

Speaking about his lockdown experience, Kristian confessed he was itching to get back to his DJ work again.

The Game of Thrones star said: “I don’t have the words to tell you how much I have missed it.

“It’s been devastating. I am pawing the ground to get back to it,” he confessed.

It’s not all bad news though, as luckily Kristian’s acting work has kept him busy instead.

Speaking about his upcoming projects, he confirmed: “I finished work on a movie called the Unwelcome recently.”

The new movie is directed by Irish filmmaker Jon Wright and also stars Douglas Booth and Colm Meaney.

Kristian also confirmed he’s currently working on a TV project: “I’m in LA at the minute working on a new HBO max show Our Flag Means Death, with Taika Watiti.”

He’s working with the Oscar winning filmmaker for the upcoming pirate comedy series.

Kristian will be playing a character called John Feeney in the production which will also star Ewen Bremner, Guz Khan and Rhys Darby.

Game of Thrones seasons one to eight are available on DVD and Blu-ray.
