Gomorrah is a popular Italian crime drama series which first started airing on Sky Atlantic in 2014. The series is based on the book of the same name by Roberto Saviano, and he helped create the show, which has run for four seasons. Here is all we know so far about season five and when it will air.
When is Gomorrah season 5 out?
Sky has revealed the first-look images for the fifth and final season, which has gone on to receive worldwide critical acclaim.
To date, the series has been shown in more than 190 locations around the world.
Filming started off in Riga and is now taking place in Naples. The series will air on Sky and NOW TV.
The series makes its debut locally on November 19, with a UK release date set for early December.
Who is in the cast of Gomorrah season 5?
The new series is likely to include Salvatore Esposito who Gennaro “Genny” Savastano, who has become a renowned criminal.
Arturo Muselli may also be back as Enzo “Sangueblù” Villa, leader of the Santo clan in Forcella who first appeared in season three.
Marco D’Amore, who plays the main character Ciro Di Marzio in the series, is due to return to direct the first five episodes of season five.
Andrea Di Maria plays Elia “‘o Diplomato” Capaccio, who is co-leader of the Capaccio clan along with Fernando “‘o Crezi” Capaccio (Carlo Caracciolo).
Recurring actor Claudio Cupellini will also be jumping on board with the directing for the new series.
Is there a trailer for Gomorrah season 5?
A behind-the-scenes video shows the protagonists back on set, with Esposito playing Genny Savastano who was forced into hiding in a bunker.
Muselli is also seen as Enzo Sangue Blu and Lotito as Azzurra Avitabile, Genny’s wife.
Marco D’Amore stars once more as Ciro Di Marzio, who was left for dead at the end of season three.
The new trailer sees Genny Savastano, who was forced into hiding at the end of the fourth series, making a comeback.
Ciro Di Marzio also turned out to be alive in a shocking twist.
What will happen in Gomorrah season 5?
This series is likely to be huge with many loose ends tied up, as this is the final season.
Fans are also advised to watch the spin-off series, L’Immortale, ahead of the release as it acts as a bridge between seasons four and five of Gomorrah.
Tozzi said there was a “big surprise involved” in the spin-off, so fans are likely to be left on the edge of their seats.
The series is set in Naples and follows the Savastano Camorra clan, exploring relationships with rival clans and internal family struggles.
In the new series, which is likely to be made up of 12 episodes like the others, fans can expect plenty more gang rivalry.
Fans will have to watch this space to find out exactly when the new series will drop, but Tozzi remains hopeful.
He said: “We are moving towards preparation with the idea of shooting at the end of June or beginning of July. It’s technically impossible to start production now.
“Actors must be tested at least once a week and those tests are not available in such high quantity. The second major issue is that there’s no insurance.
“New Italian independent productions cannot get underway, though that might be slightly different on a larger studio project.
“In the next couple of months we expect tests to become more readily available. The government has also proposed an improvement to the tax credit which could help offset the insurance challenge.”
