Holly Willoughby, 40, shocked ITV viewers when she made the surprising revelation that she was related to EastEnders’ legend Tamzin Outwaite, 50. The family connection was revealed when Tamzin, who is best known for playing Mel Owen on the BBC soap, appeared on Monday’s This Morning to speak to Holly and co-host Phillip Schofield about her latest project.
The actress initially appeared on This Morning to discuss her latest role in BBC drama Ridley Road.
However, the conversation soon turned to The Masked Dancer which Tamzin competed in.
The soap actress danced as ‘Scarecrow’ on the ITV competition, with Holly appearing as a guest detective during the episode where Tamzin was unmasked.
Speaking on This Morning, Holly admitted she was left red-faced when she didn’t realise Tamzin was behind the mask – especially because of their familial connection.
During Monday’s episode of This Morning, Holly said: “I loved you so much in that.
“I clearly didn’t guess who you were which is slightly embarrassing bearing in mind we are practically related.”
Holly apologised but Tazmin laughed and told her it was okay.
This Morning presenter Holly and Tamzin are related through marriage, and Holly has even referred to the actress as her cousin in the past.
The pair are cousins-in-law as Holly’s producer husband Dan Baldwin’s mother is Tamzin’s mum’s sister.
The actress is perhaps best known for playing Mel Owen in EastEnders from 1998 to 2002.
In 2006, Tamzin revealed she would not rule out returning to Albert Square and she made a comeback as Mel in 2017.
The actress had some eventful storylines when she reappeared on the BBC soap, including reigniting her romance with her ex Ray Kelly (played by Sean Mahon), who her son Hunter (Charlie Winter) later killed.
Holly herself is getting involved in a new television project and will be joining up with comedian Lee Mack for a new programme called Wim Hof’s Superstar Survival.
The BBC show will see celebrities attempt some “death-defying” challenges set across the harshed environments in Europe.
The show’s guide, Wim Hof, earned his nickname as Ice Man after setting world records such as submerging himself in ice for almost two hours.
Speaking to The Daily Star about the show, Holly said: “Lee is a favourite in our house because he’s so hilariously funny and I’ve been a fan of Wim for a long time – he’s a genius who’s incredibly passionate about helping others.
“This show is going to be brilliantly entertaining and you never know… you may find out some things that could help you along the way too.”
Would I Lie To You? star Lee joked: “My passions in life are Wim Hof, watching ‘This Morning’ in my undies, sub-zero temperatures, looking at celebrities sitting in cold water and free hotels.
“But trying to find a show that combines these has proved tricky. Finally, I’ve found one.”
This Morning airs on ITV on weekdays at 10am.
