Michael Greco takes baby son Gianluca home after 'incredible recovery'

EastEnders star Michael Greco has informed fans that he can take his baby son Gianluca home after seven weeks in hospital.

The Beppe Di Marco actor became a father last month after girlfriend Helen Harris gave birth six weeks early.

He shared at the time that Gianluca had been born with gastroschisis, a rare genetic disorder when the baby’s abdomen does not develop fully while in the womb.

Michael, 50, has since kept fans in the loop with a number of updates, revealing in early August that he was ‘hopeful’ that his baby boy was through the worst of ‘his troubles’, and on Tuesday (August 17), he took to Instagram Stories to reveal that Gianluca has made an ‘incredible recovery,’ and can therefore come home.

‘Hi everyone, thank you so much for all your support over the last seven really tough weeks,” he said in a clip on his Instagram Stories.

‘I’ve just had the most incredible news from the doctors that my boy is being discharged today.

‘He’s made an incredible recovery so soon, so strong. And I’ve just arrived at the hospital to take him home.

‘So thank you all so much for all your well wishes and incredible support. Great day.’

Michael first revealed partner Helen had given birth to a baby boy back in July.

He shared a picture of Gianluca, writing at the time: ‘My boy… Gianluca Greco. Born July 1st 2021. Weighing 4.47lbs.

‘The little man was born prematurely due to the fact that previous scans had failed to pick up his rare birth defect called Gastroschisis.

‘The consultant suggested it was best for him to born early so that he could get the necessary care and attention.

‘He was born at University College of London Hospital @uclh Their staff were extremely professional and Mother and Baby could not have been in better hands. Dad was a “tad” emotional to say the least!’
