The sixth season of Outlander cannot come soon enough for fans of the time-travelling Starz drama who’ve been waiting over 18 months to see Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) back on screens. Sadly, even though filming may have wrapped, the wait looks likely to continue into next year. However, fans will be able to catch actor Balfe on the big screen soon as the star took to Instagram recently to share details about an exciting project away from the Starz series.
Balfe may have spent the best part of the last seven years bringing Claire Fraser to life but the actor’s impressive CV doesn’t stop there.
And in her latest project away from Outlander, Balfe has shared a peek at her performance in the big-screen flick, Belfast.
Starring opposite Judi Dench, Jamie Dornan and Ciaran Hinds, Belfast takes viewers back to the 1960s to tell the story of a young working-class boy growing up in the Northern Irish capital.
Sharing the trailer with her 1.7million Instagram followers, Balfe began: “Belfast Film Trailer. So so proud of this film…. [love heart emoji].
“No matter how far you go, you never forget where you came from.
“Written and directed by Kenneth Branagh, #BELFAST is only in theaters November 12. @jamiedornan #judidench #CiaranHinds #JudeHill @lewismcaskie @laramcdonnellofficial #kennethbranagh @belfastmovie.”
Needless to say, it didn’t take long for Balfe fans to respond with their excited messages – including a number of familiar faces to Outlander fans.
Medici star Matilda Lutz replied: “It looks amazing! Can’t wait to watch!”
“Had the most amazing time, thank you for everything Caitriona,” said Belfast co-star Lara McDonnell.
Fellow Outlander star Lauren Lyle – who plays Marsali – also took to the comment to write: “Can’t wait to see it!’
While Outlander’s Ian Murray star Steven Cree echoed: “Looks cracking!”
So while Outlander still may be some way away from returning to screens, fans can catch Balfe in cinemas from November 12.

The sixth season of Outlander, like so many productions across the globe, fell victim to numerous delays as a result of the Covid pandemic.
And that wasn’t all as leading star Heughan revealed tumultuous weather also played a part in disrupting production.
Speaking to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on This Morning earlier this year, Heughan delved into the detail on why the delays ensued.
Speaking in March, he said: “We started in January and it’s going well obviously it’s been tough with Covid protocols but also the weather in Scotland has been pretty horrendous.
