Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) has appeared in almost every episode of Outlander since it first hit screens but fans of the Starz series may not see him on screen as much if he lands one of the most coveted film roles – James Bond. Actor Sam is one of the favourites to play the famous spy and he’s admitted he would be keen to take on the persona of 007. But would this mean Jamie would have to take more of a backseat role in future series?

Sam joined This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield via video link earlier this week to discuss the rumours.

The actor explained he’d already auditioned for the role in the past and would be keen to do so again.

Holly commented: “We have been saying all morning about the Bond rumours and whether or not they’re true.

“It obviously as an actor that would be a role you would want to play and you did audition a while back.”

“Yeah I did,” Sam replied as the Bond theme tune could be heard in the background. “I wake up to that music every morning.

“No, it’s obviously a dream for every actor. I did audition for it when they did Bond 21 and Daniel Craig was cast for it in Casino Royale.

“I think a lot of actors were seen in the UK and of course it would be a dream role.”

Sam added: “And a Scottish Bond, who doesn’t want to see a Scottish Bond?”

“Well quite right too,” Phillip replied. “So what you’re saying here is that should anyone be considering calling you, you would be happy to pick up the phone.”

Sam laughed: “Yeah, you guys I actually have to jump off this call because I’m waiting for Barbara Broccoli to give me a bell.”

Fortunately, if Sam did land the role of James Bond, it’s likely he could film it around his Outlander schedule.

Fans of the actor know he recently starred in Bloodshot which he filmed while still playing Jamie so it’s likely he could commit to both roles.

But it’s not just other acting roles Sam is eyeing up as he recently revealed he’s been writing a book.

Speaking to Gio Journal earlier this year, he divulged: “I’ve been working on the post-production of a TV show I produced/financed and directed last year.

“We hope to have it air this year and it’s been a lot of fun. Also, a book deal, so I’m writing A LOT!”

Sam added he has been given the “freedom to explore projects that I love”.

He continued: “Current movie projects (Bloodshot, An Unquiet Life etc.) plus producing my own projects (Clanlands etc).

“However, there also comes a great responsibility and at times a heavy expectation from fans. It’s a balancing act.”

Sam is also set to appear in new Starz series Men in Kilts alongside Outlander co-star Graham McTavish very soon.
