Pirates of the Caribbean 6 ‘will diversify cast’ following Johnny Depp ‘replacement’
Johnny Depp discusses Pirates of the Caribbean in 2017
Plans for the next Pirates of the Caribbean movies have not yet been officially announced by Disney – but fans have heard a lot on what they may include. Earlier this year rumours surfaced that Margot Robbie would be replacing Captain Jack Sparrow star Johnny Depp following his public court case against a British newspaper, and his ex-wife Amber Heard. While these rumours were unconfirmed, Robbie herself commented on them last month, confirming that she is in fact becoming the new face of the franchise.
Robbie explained during an interview that she and new Pirates of the Caribbean writer Christina Hodson were injecting the new film with a lot of “girl power”.
The latest rumours from Hollywood seem to suggest that this could be a recurring theme throughout the upcoming, as-of-yet unannounced films.
An insider recently touted that Disney will be reinvigorating the franchise by diversifying its acting force.
They explained that it may include a lot more women and people of colour going forward.

The source explained the House of Mouse are keen to see these less-represented groups “leading the series” in films to come.
The insider added that this is the same push that Disney are giving future Marvel and Star Wars films.
Considering Hodson lead a star-studded cast of diverse actors in her hit blockbuster Birds of Prey, it seems like they have chosen the perfect person for the job.
There is no word yet on whether Depp will be making a return, however things don’t look good for him, considering he was recently pushed out of the third Fantastic Beasts film, of which he played the main villain, Gellert Grindelwald.

In between the rumours spread through 2020 whispers of Depp’s return have surfaced, albeit in an extremely limited form.
It is entirely possible that Depp could appear in one more Pirates film to physically and symbolically pass the torch over to the next generation – meaning Robbie.
However it sounds like Robbie has already begun planning how things are going to go in her new movies, if insiders are to be believed.
Further rumours arrived earlier this month that Robbie will be joined in the film by her Suicide Squad co-star Jared Leto.

According to the same Hollywood insider, Margot is “looking to team up” with Leto in the movie, bringing Harley Quinn and the Joker back on screen together again.
Leto has a lot on his plate at the moment as he is busy promoting his first ever appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Morbius.
Despite this, he could be a great fit for the Pirates franchise.
Depp arrived on screen to great applause as the eccentric and almost-unhinged Jack Sparrow in the first Pirates film – The Curse of the Black Pearl.
Leto himself has already dabbled in creating some esoteric characters in his career, including the Joker, Paul Allan in American Psycho, Angel from Fight Club, and Niander Wallace in Blade Runner 2049.
His inclusion in the franchise might just provide fans with a little familiarity in lieu of Depp’s acting.
The Pirates of the Caribbean films are available to watch on Disney Plus now.
