Spoilers: Marlon released in Emmerdale as Pierce is charged with murder

Pierce Harris’ (Jonathan Wrather) fate has been confirmed by Emmerdale as he has been charged with kidnap and potentially murder after his well laid plans fell apart around him – leading to original suspect Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) being told that he will be released due to a new line of inquiry.

Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) heroically fought off smug Pierce after tricking him into confessing to details of Graham’s murder on video. After she injected him with tranquiliser, she rescued hostages Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick), her son Johnny and Kim Tate (Claire King).

Pierce was taken in for questioning but he seemed to believe that he still had wriggle room to get out of his crimes as he tried to make the police believe that he had made the story up to impress Rhona.

But as the detectives told him that he was going away for a long time, he was horrified when they revealed DNA evidence from the murder weapon and the scene of Graham’s murder that irrefutably place him at the scene of the crime.

As the smirk was wiped from Pierce’s face, it looks like he has a long stretch in prison ahead of him and he will be out of Rhona’s life forever.

Later, the police went to visit a broken looking Marlon and told him that they could organise his release for the next day, causing him to burst into tears of relief. As he sobbed at the thought of being reunited with his loved ones, it looks like an open and shut case for Pierce.

But as well as dealing with the horror that she has endured, there is further trauma ahead for Vanessa who now has to face up to the fact that she will have to confide in Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) that she is suffering with bowel cancer.

How will Charity take this fresh blow?
