Spoilers: New love interest ahead for Audrey in Corrie?

Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) in Coronation Street has quite the history when it comes to relationships. In recent years, Lewis Archer (Nigel Havers) returned and teamed up with a clairvoyant in order to target Gail (Helen Platt) and steal her money, but his relationship with Audrey came to a tragic end when he suddenly passed away.

With Audrey a single woman as 2021 begins, Sue has revealed she’s hoping for a new love interest for her character this year.

Featuring on ‘Corrie Good News’ on the soap’s YouTube channel, Sue looked back at some of her iconic character’s romances over the years, from her marriage to Alf Roberts (Bryan Mosley) to her flirting with Fred Elliott (John Savident), she has high hopes there is more to come in 2021.

Sue said: ‘Audrey came in as a flirty piece, who was anybody’s for a G&T. And I’m glad to say, despite what you think, she hasn’t changed. She’s had the most wonderful life. Starting with marrying the wonderful Alfie, who was the love of her life.

She also flirted happily with Fred the butcher, Mel Hutchwright, the rather devious and wonderful poet, so-called, and not forgetting the wonderful Lewis. So, I’m hoping that, soon, that will carry on. I’m keeping my fingers crossed there’s more to come.’

Sue has played Audrey since 1979, and married Alf in December 1985, but he sadly passed away on January 1st 1999, just a month ahead of Brian’s real-life passing.

Sir Ian McKellen played Mel in May 2005, who turned out to be a conman, and real name was Lionel Hipkiss.

Sue’s real-life husband Mark Eden, who played Alan Bradley in Corrie from 1986 to 1989, sadly died following a battle with Alzheimer’s on January 1 2021.

Who will catch Audrey’s eye this year?
