The former Brexit Party MEP was invited onto Thursday morning’s show to discuss moves by EU Commission’s Ursula Von der Leyen which threaten to restrict the movement of vaccines to the UK amid the EU’s chronic shortages in supply. Ms Widdecombe took the opportunity to robustly defend the decision of the British people to leave the European Union, telling the programme: “Thank Heaven for Brexit.”
She continued: “They are now in a panic because they have made a complete mess of vaccine procurement.
“If you think back to the early days when we were simply approving the vaccine, ordering them, just getting on with it.
“The EU was dragging its feet, was condemning us.
“Then are vaccine programme started to roll and the EU at one point actually tried to close the Irish border.”
