The Masked Singer fans are convinced theyve rumbled Mushroom as Doctor Who star

The Masked Singer fans think they have rumbled Mushroom as clues point towards a certain Doctor Who star.

The viewers of the ITV singing show are pretty certain that the character is actress Alex Kingston, who played River Song in Doctor Who for seven years.

A Reddit user shared their reasons why they believed they had nailed Mushroom, including how the character's song choices were strikingly suspicious.

One fan said: "If you are a fan of Doctor Who you would know her first episode was Silence in the Library and her first song was It's Oh So Quiet.

"I've been 'known to sprout in a more serious part of the forest from time to time' could be referring to the fact huge revelations about her character was made in the episode Forrest of the dead."

The eagle-eyed user also pointed out that there were "other references to her character" that made sense.

The ITV viewer continued: "Dig deeper is a reference to archeology.

"Start new lives is because she can regenerate."

The Reddit user, who goes by the username of AgreeableSmile8095, also explained that in her first performance she was holding a fairy tale book.

This could relate to the fact that Alex read a story for young children on Bedtime Stories in 2013.

67 per cent of followers on the online thread also agreed that it could be the BBC actress.

Alex first shot to fame in the early eighties after securing a role on Grange Hill, playing Jill Harcourt.

She then went on to pursue a career in acting and successfully starred in many other film and TV shows including titles such as The Bill, Foreign Affairs and CSI.

Most famously, Alex was known for starring as River Song in Doctor Who between 2008 and 2015, whose alter-ego was Melody Pond's third incarnation and the Doctor's wife.

Since her sci-fi stint in the series ended, Alex has gone on to star in Shoot the Messenger, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life and as of recently A Discovery of Witches.

On Saturday night, Mushroom sang the hit song There Are Worse Things I Could Do from the much-loved musical Grease, which left the judges completely stumped.

The character stated: "There's not a lot of places you won't find mushrooms. I've been lucky to be able to leave my forest and plant myself in lots of exciting places.

"It has been nice to be part of the action, and I've seen a lot of places. Honestly, I could never have imagined it all but I try to take it all in my stride."

They also added: "I just want to bring peace and love, man."

TV judges Rita Ora, Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Mo Gilligan were left baffled after the mind-blowing performance, giving guesses such as Rebel Wilson, Sia, Vicky McClure and Greta Thunberg.
