Ben Shephard returned to the Tipping Point studio on Tuesday afternoon as he put players Jill, Jack, John and Ashnique up against the famous machine. However, after seeing off the competition, Jill was the lucky player crowned as the winner and joined Ben at the end of the show to see if she could knock the elusive £10,000 jackpot counter off. Jill sadly failed to do so but when she turned down the trade of three more counters from the ITV frontman, it’s fair to say fans grew “suspicious” of her tactics.
Jill had sailed through to the final round after John bowed out in round one and Jack followed in round two.
In a tense head to head in the penultimate round, Jill edged into the final with £1,600 against Ashnique’s £1,500 meaning she was the one to take on the machine for the jackpot.
And her fine form continued in her battle against the ITV machine, with the jackpot counter edging closer and closer to the edge of the shelf.
However, with it poised on the edge of drop zone two, Gill ran out of counters, although it seemed one final nudge would knock it over.
Gill was offered the chance by Ben to trade the £2,750 she’d accumulated for three final counters in a bid to knock the jackpot off.
And while the odds looked firmly stacked in her favour, Gill decided to keep the money – much to the surprise of Ben.
“It depends where they’d land, Ben,” Gill mused as she made her decision. “And £2,750 is a very nice day out, it’s us off to Greece, so I’m gonna take the money.”
As is usual, however, Ben made Gill put the three counters into the machine to see if she’d made the right call.
With the first counter, Gill dropped it into the machine but the disc was “riding” on another, meaning it wouldn’t budge anything off the shelf.
Gill’s timing meant the third counter did the same, and the jackpot counter stayed firmly on the shelf.
Ben admitted he’d have taken the trade himself but congratulated Gill on seemingly making the right call given two of the final three counters would’ve been “riders”.
However, a number of viewers accused the Tipping Point player of fixing the final round and failing to knock off the jackpot counter “on purpose”.

And David agreed: “Jill shows exactly why she’d would never have won taking the trade…shocking timing! #TippingPoint.”
Steven concurred: “She made them ride on purpose#TippingPoint.”
While David mused: “If I didn’t take the trade I’d make em ride on purpose, I wouldn’t want it to go. #TippingPoint.”
However, Eileen hit back at the claims, congratulating Gill on her achievement: “Did the right thing Jill, [smile emoji] #tippingpoint.”
