GB News will be the first major news channel to launch in the UK in the past 30 years. The channel has caused quite a stir, recruiting well-known presenters to join and take on the likes of Sky News, ITV and BBC. Here’s everything you need to know about GB News.

GB News is going to be similar to its competitor channels but will see more of a mix of news, opinion and debate rather than simply rolling news.

The plan is to air 6,500 hours of television per year with its director of news John McAndrew saying it will be “free, fair, impartial” and “Ofcom regulated”.

Journalist Andrew Neil is the chairman of the upcoming channel and will present a flagship news programme from 8pm.

These “Wokewatch” and “Mediawatch” segments will air four nights a week on GB News.

As mentioned, Neil will be having a primetime news and interview slot four nights a week.

There will be a show hosted by former The Apprentice winner Michelle Dewberry each weeknight as well as Tonight Live with Dan Wootton, the former The Sun showbiz editor.

A programme called “Alastair Stewart and Friends” is also going to be shown and has been described as a “warm conversation and analysis of current affairs through the lens of his 45 years’ experience at the sharp end of Britain’s biggest news events”.

Speaking of the launch, McAndrew said: “We can sense a real hunger for something fresh and different in television news and debate.

“It’s humbling because we are a small start-up with a fraction of the resources of others, but what we lack in size we make up for in passion and determination to provide a welcoming home for honest British news and debate.

“All our presenters will have the freedom to say what they think, to have some fun and to be brave about covering the issues that really matter to the people of Britain.”
