Boy, 3, and his dog chase car after being abandoned in cemetery days before Xmas

A three-year-old boy and his dog were abandoned in a cemetery just two days before Christmas.

A witness told police she saw a car speed away from Hope Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hinckley, Ohio, the US, on Wednesday, December 23.

Police officers raced to the scene and took the boy into protective custody.

The child, who said his name was Tony, is thought to be around three years old and is in a good psychical condition.

He has since been placed into the “loving” home of a foster family, police said.

The boy was in his mum’s custody at the time he was abandoned, WJW-TV reported.

He was only able to identify his parents by their first names, Katy and David.

Chief David Centner, of the Hinckley police department, said Tony’s dad has been “very cooperative” in the investigation”.

He said anyone who wanted to buy Tony presents could drop them off at the police station.

In an update on Christmas Eve, Centner said: “We have identified the parents and are working this evening with Medina County Children Services on the investigation.

“I hope to provide further information later this evening. Thank you to our local news media for their help in finding the parents.

“Also all of the calls and messages to help Tony are greatly appreciated. All of you have renewed my faith and appreciation for the wonderful community we live in and that surrounds us.

“All of you are truly the best! God bless all of you.”

Police also recovered the dog after finding it running around in the cemetery.
