Dewsbury fire – 'Huge explosions' and smoke 'seen for miles' after fire in town centre
A BUILDING burst into flames after a huge explosion and bang sparking panic and chaos.
Residents reported hearing a "loud bang" in Dewsbury, Yorkshire, with a massive smoke plume seen billowing from miles away.
Many locals have reported hearing a loud bang in the Kirklees town, with one saying that something had “blown up”.
Another posted on social media: "Massive explosion in Dewsbury. Black smoke everywhere!"
Footage posted on social media show a huge plume of smoke coming from a building which was ablaze.
Several mini explosions could be heard as the fire continued to rip through the property.
The smoke is reportedly causing chaos as it drifts across the town, with emergency services rushing to the scene.
Firefighters are reportedly using water from the River Calder at Savile Town Wharf to try to tackle the blaze.
The Sun has contacted West Yorkshire Police and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue for a comment.
