Heavy rain and thunderstorms to cause ‘disruption’ over weekend across Europe

BBC Weather forecaster Stav Danaos said central and southeastern parts of Europe would see some of the wettest weather over the weekend. Temperatures will remain in the mid-teens for many parts of central Europe as well. In eastern parts of Europe, things will remain dry and sunny while southeastern Europe will see a slight dip in temperature.

Mr Danaos said: “Low pressure will be dominating the northern half of Europe this weekend.

“We have got a series of them working their way in off the Atlantic.

“It could bring some disruption, some heavy rain, and some strong winds.

“That is certainly what we have seen over the last 24 hours in.”

The BBC Weather forecaster noted that elsewhere in central Europe there will also be some rainfall.

For the rest of the continent, most notably eastern Europe things will remain dry and sunny.

He said: “The Mediterranean largely fine dry and sunny.

“There will be a few showers and thunderstorms around, particularly towards Italy.

“Elsewhere there is plenty of sunshine and there will be an improvement across eastern Europe.

“There will be more sunshine here than we have had of late.

“Northerly winds have blown down to the Balkans and Greece.

“Temperatures will be a bit lower but they will bounce back and there will be plenty of warmth and sunny weather for Cyprus.”

The weather forecaster reiterated how wet the weather is expected to be for the UK, and northern France over the weekend.

He said: “It will be very wet, very windy and disruptive weather in fact for the weekend.

“That rain will be slowing pushing its way eastwards.

“On Sunday that band of rain will be lying across more central and southwestern parts of Europe.

“Up towards Denmark and Scandinavia, there could be some very heavy bursts of rain as well.
