A house has exploded in a huge blast, creating a massive blaze that has reportedly spread to at least three houses.

The fire broke out in the city of Flint in Michigan, US, with initial reports of a "massive boom" appearing on Twitter at around 9.30pm local time on Monday.

It occurred on Hogarth Avenue but reports suggest the boom was heard and felt as far away as Grand Blanc (10 miles) and Fenton (15 miles).

According to local journalist Derek Myers on Twitter, preliminary reports suggest that four people may be trapped inside.

Genesse County Fire's live communications feed has indicated that there is a strong smell of gas surrounding the property.

Officials speaking to local media have said that they are attempting to contact the Mayor to organise evacuations and shelter for those in surroundings houses.

Police have also created a cordon around the fire whilst people gather to see if their loved ones are OK.
