Madeleine McCann cops receive 'significant' new info on suspect Christian B ahead of her 18th birthday
MADELEINE McCann cops have been handed "significant" new information in the hunt to find her on prime suspect Christian B.
It comes ahead of Madeleine's 18th birthday later this month.
Detectives in Germany have reportedly been given new leads into the suspect's background.
They have raised fresh hopes of more clues into the disappearance of the British youngster 14 years ago.
A source close to the case said: “Police in Germany have obtained new details which relate to the period in the late 1990s and early 2000’s when Christian B lived in Germany and the Algarve.
“The police believe this new information could prove significant in shaping the future direction of the probe and will be looking to liaise with colleagues in the Algarve over it.”
The Sun Online also understands German cops will use a forthcoming documentary on Maddie’s disappearance to speak directly to witnesses.
The source added: “The police remain convinced someone, somewhere knows more about this man and his links to Maddie. They implore them to come forward.”
Christian B remains the most active ongoing investigation and German cops have already said their case on him is “open-ended” – meaning there is no timeline on how long they have to investigate him.
And last week it emerged the jailed German sex offender isn't likely to be freed soon.
According to reports he is now set to be charged over a horror rape of an Irish woman almost 17 years ago.
Convicted sex offender Christian B, 43, is currently serving a seven-year sentence for raping a 72-year-old American woman in Praia da Luz in Portugal in 2005.
German prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters, who is leading the inquiries into the rape and the disappearance of Maddie, said there were similarities between the three cases.
He said: "The case against the suspect Christian B for the rape of Hazel Behan is in a good way, and it may be that we can charge him in the next three months.
"I am very hopeful for a charge in this case."
Christian B — who German authorities believe killed Madeleine after abducting her 14 years ago today — is also serving a jail sentence for drug trafficking.
Madeleine was three when she vanished from a flat in the village in May 2007. She has not been seen since.
Prosecutors said in June they had "concrete evidence" she was dead and have named Christian B as the main suspect.
There have been no major developments since, leaving her parents still awaiting answers.
