The Met Office warnings, which cover several regions, have predicted rain and wind will batter parts of the country. Systems will touch down over London, Scotland, Wales and parts of northern England with devastating effects. Warnings suggest people could see inches of rainfall in a matter of hours and wind could exceed 50mph.
In some areas, already inundated land will leave the ground vulnerable to flooding.
The forecast states: “Gales or severe gales are expected in many coastal areas in Wales and some northern coastal parts of southwestern England this afternoon before slowly easing this evening.
“Winds will gust to 50 to 60 mph quite widely, and perhaps towards 70 mph in exposed Welsh coastal spots.
“Inland, 40 to 50 mph gusts are more likely.”
