Horrifying moment car almost crashes head-on when it overtakes lorry in thick fog as police share dashcam footage of reckless drivers

  • The footage was filmed by law-abiding motorists and given to Lancashire Police
  • It shows the vehicle pull out and narrowly miss a motorist coming the other way
  • The driver accepted a £100 fixed penalty and three points on their licence

This is the horrifying moment a driver is captured attempting to overtake a slow-moving truck along a country road which is carpeted in thick fog.

The dashcam footage was one of several clips – filmed by law-abiding motorists and given to Lancashire Police – showing motorists risking lives on British roads.

The video shows the vehicle pull out and narrowly miss a motorist coming the other way, who spots their headlights at the last second before slamming on the breaks.

The driver accepted a £100 fixed penalty and three points on their licence.

The videos, filmed on roads across Lancashire, were submitted to officers via a specially designed portal.

During another instance, a clip shows an open stretch of dual carriageway with two cars travelling in the outside lane.

As the video continues, a red Hyundai turns onto the road from a set of traffic lights, and then continues to drive up the inside lane in the wrong direction.

In further footage, drivers are observed cutting up motorists on major roundabouts before passing through red lights, while others make last-minute turns on motorways.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police thanked those who had given in their videos and vowed that they will ‘always take action’ to deter bad driving.

They said: ‘The portal allows road users to submit video footage of certain suspected traffic offences.

‘These include careless, inconsiderate, and dangerous driving, not being in proper control of a vehicle, failure to comply with signs or traffic lights, crossing solid white lines and using a mobile phone illegally.

‘This footage shows the complete disregard some drivers have for the safety of others.

‘You can see that there are various offences taking place throughout the video, with clips showing driving the wrong way down a busy road, cutting other drivers up, drivers taking unnecessary and extreme risks, some of which narrowly avoiding a collision with another vehicle.

‘We will always take action when we can and would like to thank the hundreds of people who have already helped us to combat some of the issues on our roads and improve their safety for all living and visiting Lancashire.’
