NY Rep. Elise Stefanik says Biden wants to keep Americans ‘locked in the basement’ at RNC

Upstate New York Rep. Elise Stefanik praised President Trump as the candidate who would stand up for Main Street and protect hardworking American families during her 2020 Republican National Convention speech.

The rising-star, 36-year-old North Country Republican also claimed Democratic nominee Joe Biden would keep Americans “locked in the basement” with harsh coronavirus measures — hinting at the former veep’s months-long lockdown in his Delaware home.

“I am honored to support President Trump for reelection because I know that he is the only candidate who will stand up for hardworking families and protect the American Dream for future generations,” Stefanik (R-Schuylerville) said.

“President Trump is working to safely re-open our Main Street economy. He understands that the engine of our country is fueled by the ingenuity and determination of American workers, entrepreneurs, and small businesses,” she said.

“Joe Biden wants to keep them locked up in the basement and crush them with $4 trillion in new taxes.”

Stefanik has vaulted to a position of influence within the GOP since being elected to Congress and is a valued confidante to the president.

The lawmaker on Wednesday spoke of her childhood in the Empire State’s rural 21st Congressional District which she now represents after becoming the then-youngest woman ever elected to Congress in 2015.

“I believe in the American Dream because I’ve lived it. Like millions of Americans, I grew up in a small business family where I learned the values of hard work and determination,” Stefanik said.

“I was the first person in my immediate family to graduate from college, ran for Congress to serve Upstate New York, and am proudly the youngest Republican woman elected to Congress in history,” she continued.

Stefanik shot to stardom last November with her aggressive questioning of witnesses before the powerful House Intelligence Committee during Trump’s impeachment trial last year.

Trump personally praised her at a White House reception after his acquittal, saying she was “killing them.”

She has emerged as a major China hawk amid the coronavirus pandemic, telling The Post in May she believes the Communist country is “one of the most significant emerging threats that we face.”

So far this year, she has hauled in an enormous $10 million war chest ahead of a reelection battle in November.
