Trumps backs RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel following defeat

President Trump on Wednesday threw his weight behind Ronna McDaniel, endorsing the chairwoman of the Republican National Committee to keep her position as the party is months away from leaving the White House.

“I am pleased to announce that I have given my full support and endorsement to Ronna McDaniel to continue heading the Republican National Committee (RNC),” the president wrote on twitter.

“With 72 MILLION votes, we received more votes than any sitting President in U.S. history – and we will win!” he added.

Earlier Wednesday McDaniel raised some eyebrows over a since-deleted tweet where she appeared to acknowledge Joe Biden’s presidential victory by noting Sen. Kamala Harris could cast the deciding vote determining control of the Senate.

If the Democrats and Republicans both have 50 seats each following two Georgia runoff elections, the vice president can cast the tie-breaking vote.

In her tweet laying out the potential makeup of a Democratic-led Senate, McDaniel wrote: “Deciding Vote Kamala Harris.”

The RNC said in a statement to The Hill that the tweet was “clearly a hypothetical.”
