Two killed in fire at Morecambe working men’s club

Two people have died after a fire at a working men's club in Morecambe.

Firefighters swooped on Gordon Working Men's Club this afternoon,

Three were injured in the blaze, and this evening police confirmed two are dead.

Two helicopters and three road ambulances had earlier attended the scene.

The tragic duo were rescued from the fire but died a short time later, with police in the process of contacting next of kin.

The blaze happened at around 3.50pm on Springfield Street.

A joint investigation by police and the fire service is under way and police have appealed for witnesses.

One witness said: "Next minute there's smoke coming in through the main window, coming through the door.

"People were running everywhere."
