Victoria records 29th consecutive day of zero new COVID-19 cases

Victoria has recorded its 29th consecutive day of no new COVID-19 cases the day after the state passed the milestone epidemiologists say signals the elimination of COVID-19 in the community.

It comes as West Australian authorities indicated they may consider relaxing some of the border restrictions still in place against the state.

Victorian health services conducted 9,403 tests on Friday.

However, it could be months before Melburnians can return to the office en masse, with epidemiologists cautioning against unleashing the city's entire workforce until it is clear why fragments of the virus continue to surface in wastewater.

More to come.
